Ayrlawn Development, Bethesda, MD
Morris Marks was
the driving force behind this large
subdivision of post World Ware II lots built under the GI bill. The
single family dwellings were being mass-produced from excavating the
basements to the final landscaping in only ten days. Built of solid
masonry, they sold for $12,000. During their construction, a dozen
bricklayers and carpenters worked on them simultaneously. Currently the
homes, near the center of Bethesda, are valued at about $1.2 million
each.
